Guntorps
Herrgård
Guntorpsgatan, Borgholm,
telephone 46-485-130 00.
Nice little
Guntorp on the outskirts of Borgholm
ist the archetype of a modern
guest-house with its old-fashioned
floors and boardings somewhere
in between home and manor-house.
The food is by no means remarkable
but there is a lot of concern
that makes the smorgasbord worth
more than its SEK 155.
Here it is a matter of course
that there is always ripe Cheddar
cheese to put to the newly baked
bread. The patty is not really
brilliant but unmistakably home-made
and the cold cuts well-chosen
with a delicious lightly-smoked
roast lamb.
You are welcome
to order one of Guntorp´s
own appetizers from a chilled
decanter with a well-balanced
taste of herbs and flowers.
Very probably the staff with an
air of innocence will repeat the
hackneyed old joke about the secret
seasoning: "That´s a
very serious question."
A Swedish pun: allvar means
seriousness, while alvar
is the bare limestone soil that
covers a great part of the island.
